In today’s world everyone know about RAM but many of the peoples don’t know the use of RAM. When ever a person goes to buy a mobile phone he/she has a question in mind that how much RAM he/she should to buy.
Do you know about ROM? if you are a smart phone user then perhaps you know about it and if you don’t know the difference between RAM and ROM. So I will tell you the differences between them. But before that Let’s know in detail about “Random Access Memory”.
What is RAM ?
Random Access Memory is full form of RAM. As its name showing it’s a kind of memory. It works as a memory in your computer or mobile. This is a kind of primary memory. It is also known as Main memory, Physical memory, Volatile memory.
Which saves any work you done in computer but in temporary form not in permanent form, but till the computer turns on. Once the computer turns off every work you done on computer will lost, because that was save in RAM not in hard disk or pen in drive.
In simple words, RAM only saves the work which is currently going on your computer. If we save any data in hard disk so it’ll remains in hard disk till the hard disk stop working or you don’t delete it from hard disk, so don’t get confuse in random access memory and Hard disk (Hard disk saves any data in permanent form).
May you understood what is RAM? But for choose a good random access memory you must know that HOW RAM’S WORK? Once you’ll got the answer of this question, So you will choose a better RAM for your computer. Let’s start knowing, how does a RAM works ?
How does “Random Access Memory” work ?
You’ll understand how does a RAM works after reading this example-: Like there is a blackboard in your school. On which you make some notes, word, number or drawing. But when your blackboard fills up. So you have to clean it, only then you will be able to work on it.
In the same way RAM works in your mobile or computer. If your device has less random access memory and you are working on multiple apps or programs simultaneously. So your RAM memory will be full. Due to which your device will start working slowly.
To run a new apps or program, you have to clean the apps which are processing in background. Then only a new app or software will run, otherwise your mobile or computer will hang. This will free up random memory and can be worked on it again, That’s why if you want to do multi tasking in computer or mobile. So your device should have more Random Access Memory.

SRAM
Static RAM is the full form of Static random access memory. In this type of RAM, data is stored using the state of a six transistor memory cell. Static random memory is mostly used as a cache memory for the processor.
DRAM
DRAM stands for Dynamic Random Access Memory. It is a type of RAM which allows you to stores each bit of data in a separate capacitor within a specific integrated circuit. Dynamic random access memory is a standard computer memory of the many modern desktop computers. This type of random access memory is a volatile memory that needs to be refreshed with voltage regularly. Else it loses the information stored on it.

| SRAM has lower access time, which is faster compared to DRAM. | DRAM has a higher access time. It is slower than SRAM. |
| SRAM is in the form of on-chip memory. | DRAM has the characteristics of off-chip memory. |
| The storage capacity of SRAM is 1MB to 16MB. | The storage capacity of DRAM is 1 GB to 16GB. |
| The SRAM is widely used on the processor or lodged between the main memory and processor of your computer. | The DRAM is placed on the motherboard. |
| Uses transistors and latches. | Uses capacitors and very few transistors. |
How much RAM should be in the computer?
You must have known the importance of RAM in a computer. But still you must be thinking how much RAM should be in the computer? The random access memory of the computer depends on your work. If you want to use a computer for personal use, then you can use 1 to 4 GB of RAM! Up to 4 GB of RAM is good for normal computers.
But if you want to play video mixing, or high graphic games, then your computer should have at least 8 GB of RAM. But if you want to do graphic designing work, then 16 to 20 GB of RAM is used. Now its depend on your need.
